Ever wondered what life would be like aboard a ship?  You can experience it over the weekend of March 22nd - 24th with Troop 400.  We'll sleep aboard the World War II vintage aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and get the opportunity to tour the flight deck, flight hanger, see numerous aircraft up close as well as explore a retired submarine and destroyer.  On Saturday Scouts will attend two programs — one covers many of the requirements for the Oceanography merit badge, another covers much of the Aviation merit badge.  Cost is $106 for Scouts, $96 for adults and includes meals on Saturday as well as breakfast on Sunday.

Sign-ups are active on the Troop webpage but space is limited and payment needed by February 5th.  Please note, due to the travel time between Durham and Charleston we will depart Aldersgate shortly after noon on Friday so that we can make our designated arrival time to board the Yorktown.

Patriots Point has mandated ratios for adult leaders per youth — more leaders are needed to meet this ratio and to provide transportation.  Please contact John Alling (john.alling@me.com) and copy the Scoutmaster (scoutmaster@troop400durham.org) with questions.  We’ll cover additional details at an upcoming meeting.  Until then, familiarize yourself with the Yorktown’s Camping Booklet.
